Scheduling a Mediation (Recommending Counseling) Appointment

As soon as the other party has been served with custody papers (or as soon as you have been served with custody papers if they were filed by the other party), you must contact Family Court Services immediately to schedule an appointment.

Alameda County

If your case is in Alameda County, the fastest way to obtain a mediation appointment is to request one online. You can do so at the Family Court Services website located here.

If you are not able to schedule your appointment online, you can call (510) 690-2500 to schedule an appointment.

Contra Costa County

If your case is in Contra Costa County, you must call Family Court Services at (925) 957-7950 to schedule your orientation sessions (each parent will attend a different orientation session) and to arrange for your mediation appointment. Family Court Services will not schedule a mediation appointment until both parents have called.

After you have requested an appointment, Family Court Services will notify you by mail of your appointment times for your Orientation session and your Recommending Counseling (Mediation) session.

As soon as you receive notification of your appointment dates and times, contact our office to schedule an appointment to prepare. If you are not able to reach an agreement in Recommending Counseling (Mediation), the counselor will be making recommendations to the Judge in your case, so it is very important to prepare for this appointment.
